Taylor Wins Third ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis senior Danna Taylor completed her run at the ITA Southeast Regional on Tuesday afternoon with her third championship singles title. Taylor faced sophomore teammate Divya Venkatarama in the championship final on the Tartans' home court.

This was Taylor's first time facing a teammate in the championship singles final, as she previously topped a player from Johns Hopkins University during her freshman season and a player from the University of Mary Washington in her sophomore season.

Tuesday's match saw Taylor top Venkatarama by a 6-4, 6-2 score. Taylor was seeded second for the tournament while Venkatarama was seeded ninth and defeated the number one seed in the semifinals on Monday.

With the victory, Taylor advances to the ITA Cup which will be held from Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15 in Rome, Georgia, at Berry College. Venkatarama and sophomore Anna Chow will join Taylor at the national event with Venkatarama earning a place in the singles bracket and Chow set to partner with Taylor in the doubles bracket after finishing as runner-up in the ITA Southeast Regional.
