Spalding Resets School Record in Long Jump at Denison

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team finished fourth at the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday, February 8. Junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Sprinstead) broke her own school record while senior Sara Kelly (Madison, Wis./West) won the 3,000-meter run.

Spalding broke her own school record in the long jump, winning with a leap of 5.22m on her sixth and final jump of the day.

Kelly led the Tartans effort with a victory in the 3,000-meter run. She crossed in a career-best time of 11:04.56 and ahead of teammate, junior Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), who was second in 11:08.04.

Senior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) ran to three season best times on Saturday, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.26, third in the 60-meter dash in 8.20, and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.62.

In the mile run, sophomore Haley Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) finished third in 5:28.78 with sophomore Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) taking sixth in 5:35.01.

Freshman Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.53m as freshman Emily Swanson (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) was fourth jumping over 1.48m. Senior Samantha Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) placed fourth in the weight throw, improving for the fourth straight week, with a mark of 13.36m and sixth in the shot put with a mark of 10.63m.

The Tartans will be in action again on Friday, February 21 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State University Indoor Collegiate Meet.
