Tartans Take Three Titles in Fourth-Place Finish in the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team finished the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational on Friday and Saturday with a fourth-place finish.

Junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) grabbed a first-place title in the long jump. She leapt a season best 5.03 meters and was the only woman to break the five-meter barrier on the day.  Spalding also tabbed a third-place finish in the shot put tossing a career-best 10.95 meters.

In the high jump, freshman Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) had a solid second-place finish.  Fortner sailed over the bar at 1.47 meters to score for the Tartans.

In the pole vault, freshman Grace Yee (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) fell over the bar at 2.60 meters to grab another third-place finish for the Tartans.

Grabbing another first-place finish for the Tartans, junior Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) cruised across the finish line a full 16 seconds ahead of second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Brown finished the race in 12:16.59.

Junior Halley Bayer finished third in the 1,500-meter run crossing the finish line with a time of 4:55.55.

Taking a first-place title in the 100-meter high hurdles, senior Jacqueline Guevel stopped the clock with a time of 15.34.  Guevel also scored points for the Tartans finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.65.

Freshman Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) grabbed a second-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.94.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Tian, senior Kelsey Hallinen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), freshman Emily Swanson (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) and Guevel finished the day with a second-place showing in a time of 4:21.59.

The Tartans will be competing next at Gesling Stadium on April 5.
