Tartans Cruise to UAA Championship!

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team cruised to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with five runners placing in the top seven at the UAA Championships on Saturday, October 28.

Race Information (top 5 team finishes)  Carnegie Mellon 23, Washington University 65, University of Chicago 76, Emory University 109, New York University 136.

Location: Hunting Valley, Ohio (University Farm)

Results

  • Graduate student Matthew Porter led the Tartans with a second-place finish with a time of 25:10.48, followed by junior Matthew Coyle with a third-place finish of 25:15.46.
  • The fifth, sixth, and seventh place finishes went to sophomore Ryan Podnar with a time of 25:23.1, senior Jacob Hsu with a time of 25:25.7, and junior Colin McLaughlin with a time of 25:29.1.
  • Junior Aleksei Seletskiy finished in 25:34.1 for tenth place.
  • Senior Charlie Murphy finished 13th with a time of 25:40.5.
  • The final scorer for the Tartans was junior Eamon Brady who finished 16th with a time of 25:42.7.

Notes

  • Sophomore Thomas Damiani finished 23rd in his first run in the UAA Championships with a time of 26:00.89.
  • Porter's finish is the best for a Tartan since senior Michael OBroin placed second in 2021 when the Tartans also won the UAA title.
  • The Tartans have won eight UAA titles and five under head coach Tim Connelly whose staff was named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for the fifth time.
  • Porter, Coyle, Podnar, Hsu, and McLaughlin each earned All-UAA First Team accolades.
  • Seletskiy and Murphy earned All-UAA Second Team accolades.
