Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Three Individuals Honored

The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2017-18. This marks the sixth consecutive year the Tartans have been honored as a team. Besides the team being hon-ored, three members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate bas-ketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2017-18 season.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2018 NABC Give Back Team, recognizing 10 men’s college basketball players for their outstanding community service efforts. Carnegie Mellon University senior Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.) was one of those 10 from a nominated list of student-athletes by college coaches and sports information directors across the country. The 2018 Give Back Team includes five student-athletes from NCAA® Division I and five from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA Division I and II.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team finished its season on Saturday with a 72-63 win over the visiting Spartans of Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action. The Tartans ended the season with an overall mark of 7-18 and 3-11 in the UAA while the Spartans finish 12-13, 6-8.

A strong first half for the Tartans was not enough, as Carnegie Mellon falls to 6-18, 2-11 while the Bear remain undefeated in UAA play at 13-0 and are 22-2 overall.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team traveled to the Windy City on Friday and dropped an 86-70 to the University of Chicago in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Carnegie Mellon moves to 6-17 overall and 2-10 in UAA play and the Maroons are now 11-12 and 7-5.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team won its second University Athletic Association (UAA) game of the season after topping the University of Rochester, 70-68, at home Sunday afternoon. The Tartans improve to 2-9 in the UAA and 6-16 overall, while the Yellowjackets move to 14-8 and 5-6.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team pushed 13th-ranked Emory University to the limit for the second time in the last five weeks on Friday in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. A layup by Emory’s Chris Avant with 0.8 seconds lifted the visitor’s to an 82-80 win at Skibo Gymnasium. Carnegie Mellon moves to 5-16 overall and 1-9 in UAA play while Emory is now 17-4 and 8-2.
