Tartans Sweep Home Tri Meet with Washington & Lee and Allegheny

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team, who is ranked fifth in the nation by the CSCAA, continued its dual meet win streak with two wins on Saturday, November 16 against Washington & Lee University and Allegheny College at home in the University Center pool. The Tartans are now 6-0 on the season after defeating the Generals by a score of 180-77 and the Gators by a score of 181-68.

The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Josh Lucheon (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic), freshman Brian Jay (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), freshman Sivan Mehta (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), and senior Eddie Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) won in 1:36.25 to begin the meet.

Freshman Brian Walsh (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) was a double winner on the day winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:55.23 and the 100-yard butterfly in 52.12, an event the Tartans swept.

The Tartans swept the 200-yard freestyle with Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) winning in 1:44.90 and the 100-yard breaststroke with junior Cole Um (Federal Way, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) winning in 1:01.07.

Junior Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview) won the 100-yard backstroke and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.51. Freshman Evan Li (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.53, another event the Tartans swept.

Later in the meet the Tartans swept the 200-yard butterfly with junior David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) winning in 1:57.39 and the 200-yard breaststroke with sophomore Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) touching first in 2:14.28.

Sears won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.55 and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.96 for the second straight week.

Sophomore Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:44.12 and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke earlier in the meet in 54.87.

The Tartans will continue action in the pool on Thursday, December 5 at Kenyon College at the Total Performance Invitational.
