Guevel and Team Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the women’s 2012 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list. A total of 137 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 or better.

Q & A with Rising Senior Sarah Menio

Rising senior Sarah Menio is a two sport athlete in women's swimming and diving and outdoor track and field and is a six-time letter winner for the Tartans. This past April, Menio placed fifth at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a career-best distance of 34.02 meters in the discus. Menio is a chemistry major in the MS/ BS program with a minor in business administration. The MS/BS program allows her to graduate with both her masters and bachelors of chemistry in a little over four years. She is also a member of the Science and Humanities Scholars program which is an interdisciplinary program which allows students to explore majors in both H&SS and MCS. Associate Head Coach Gary Aldrich of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with outstanding regional recognition. The sixth-year coach was named Mideast Assistant Coach of the Year for the women.

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s track and field team hosted the final day of the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Sunday, April 29. The two-day event was held at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans ended the championships in fifth place scoring 62 points with Emory University winning the team title totaling 226.5 points.

Guevel helped lead the Tartans to a second-place finish at their annual quad meet on Saturday.

The Tartans competed at the VMI-W&L Track and Field Carnival hosted by Washington and Lee University last weekend.
